Beverly Lacy Hodghead papers, circa 1909-1957 (bulk 1909-1928)

Collection includes scrapbooks related to Hodghead's political activities and politics in Berkeley, including his time as mayor of Berkeley. Subjects covered include his defeat in 1911 by a Socialist candidate and attempts to annex Berkeley by Oakland. The collection also includes an annual report from the mayor and city councilmen of Berkeley, transcripts of Hodghead's speeches (dating back to 1894), a transcript of hearings regarding Hetch Hetchy Dam and a small amount of clippings and correspondence with Hodghead's family about his career.

Attorney, Democratic politician. Instrumental in development of Berkeley, Calif. city charter (1906-1909) promoting a non-partisan city government. Hodghead supported Hetch Hetchy Dam project and opposed plan by Oakland to annex Berkeley. In later life, Hodghead was president of California League of Municipalities (1910-11) and chairman of John A. Roeblin's Sons Company (1922-1925).
